Habitat matters
A wildlife painting gains specificity when the surrounding ecology is legible: salmon rivers, cedar forest, alpine slopes, tidal zones or interior grasslands. Place distinguishes regional work from generic animal imagery.
Observation and interpretation
Some artists pursue anatomical and behavioural accuracy; others use colour, scale or gesture to create an emotional encounter. Both approaches can be meaningful when the work is described honestly.
For collectors
Look for medium, dimensions, creation date, edition status and a clear statement of whether the work is an original, study or reproduction. Provenance and artist-supplied context are more useful than vague claims.
